Carpet Fiber

All carpets can be classified on the basis of fiber, on the basis of designs and weaving techniques. Let’s talk today about carpets fibers. As you might already know all carpet fibers are divided into natural and synthetics. Natural fibers are wool, cotton, silk and jute. Among synthetics you will find nylon (polyamide), polyester, olefin (polypropylene) and acrylic. The nylon is the most preferred synthetic carpet material nowadays. Let’s talk about each of them and find out why nylon is so irreplaceable.

  • Wool – Can be used in high moisture areas. As a natural fiber it can aggravate the condition of specific allergies. Special care should be taken in protecting against moths. Rather expensive.
  • Cotton – one of the softest carpet fibers. Not very stain resistant and can absorb moisture easily. This results in faster wear and tear from foot traffic and frequent required cleaning.
  • Silk – Carpets are rich and expensive. To be used in dry areas.
  • Jute – Are very economical. Do not hold in moist and dampness.
  • Polyester - is hypo-allergenic and stain resistant. It is not very durable and susceptible to piling and shedding
  • Olefin (polypropylene) – Water, mildew, pilling, shedding and stain resistant. Has poor resiliency. It’s a good choice if budgets are tight.
  • Acrylic – has appearance and textures similar to wool. It is dirt and static resistant. Fuzzes and pills easily.

10 reasons to use nylon carpet:

  1. The strongest and most durable carpet fiber
  2.  Heat resistant
  3.  Stain resistant
  4.  Doesn’t fade
  5.  Retain its appearance
  6.  Soil and mildew resistant
  7.  Static resistant
  8.  Excellent for high traffic areas
  9.  Abrasion resistant
  10.  No pilling and shedding

As you see nylon has collected all good points in itself. This list could be longer, but I believe all these nylon features are quite enough for the beginning to make you choose nylon carpet.
